Sound is Everything

If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration..

Sound is Everything

In the beginning was the word” – or in Sanskrit, ‘Nada Brahma’; the world is sound.

Many ancient traditions begin their creation stories with the assertion that the universe was brought into being with sound.

Easily dismissed as some fanciful, creative storytelling until one looks a little closer.

Consider the study of wave phenomena and vibration, known as ‘Cymatics’ and we can see with our own eyes the effect that sound has on physical matter.

How would any of this relate to the music we listen to?

Quite simply, everything has a vibration. Every cell in our bodies, every atom in the universe. The scientific principal of entrainement explains how two different oscillating bodies will lock into phase and begin vibrating in harmony. A higher vibration will cause less powerful vibration to lock into the more powerful one.

Entrainment can be found on emotional levels too, such as what happens when you walk into a room full of people who are laughing and light-hearted and your mood magically lifts to match theirs. Even our brain waves follow this physics principle.

Now if we consider the music we listen to, would we be better served by ‘entraining’ to vibrations that are more in tune with nature? Are there such ‘vibrations’ available? It just so happens that there are. And it’s nothing new. Ancient civilizations seemed to be well aware of the importance of sound. Somehow, this knowledge has been largely forgotten and it’s about time we revive these ‘natural’ frequencies for wider audience.

The term Cymatics was coined by Hans Jenny (1904-1972). His work followed earlier research by Ernst Chladni during the 1700s, testing dust, sand or powder on metal plates with the bow of a violin. The various tones in the bow created geometric patterns with each specific note & vibration.

Sand on metal plate. When the metal plate is bowed, the sand moves and creates geometric patterns.

Jenny’s idea was to use similar metal plates, but this time use liquids and well as some powders and connect them by wires to an oscillator which was able to create many unique frequencies from high to low. The experiments were stunning, the shapes created were mandalas and familiar geometric patterns as the vibrations were adjusted.

It’s interesting to note that as these geometric forms are shaped in the liquid or sand, the chemical structure of the material is not altered. The sound itself is moving the matter.

Sympathetic Resonance/Entrainment

When an object is vibrating at it’s own natural resonant frequency as a result of an external influence, then it is vibrating in sympathy with the external influence that is causing it to vibrate and is in sympathetic resonance.

Now take this concept and consider your daily interactions.

How do we feel after spending time with negative people? You know, those who are complaining about ‘their’ problems.

How do we feel after spending time with positive people?

When someone says; “I got bad vibes from that person”, there may be more truth to that statement than we realised.

Would listening to sounds that are ‘out of sync’ with nature be beneficial and help us achieve balance?

Would listening to sounds that are ‘in sync’ with nature be beneficial and help us achieve balance?

There are frequencies that are ‘in sync’ and there are those which are not.

The international standard, and most of the music we listen to, is set to 440Hz. Some bright spark decided that it would be a good idea to choose a frequency that is just a little bit of out sync. I’m sure that it a simple oversight as let’s face it, everything else that they’ve offered is good for us, right?

Now we can see that sound (energy, frequency & vibration) does indeed affect matter, it follows that we too will be affected. Positively or negatively.

Is it a coincidence that mainstream news tends to focus on the negative, fear based narrative? Always a shortage or some external threat.

As we navigate our way into a higher minded new age, an awareness of the music we listen to is as good a place to start as any.

Sound made visible

  • Cymatic Patterns in Water

Not only is this a beautiful pattern, the image shows how form is created in a body of water when subjected to different frequencies.

  • Natural Frequencies Form Coherence

The difference between a ‘natural’ 432Hz frequency and the international standard 440Hz. Do we feel like we’re living in a harmonious world?

  • Geometry in Sound

These cymatic patterns are created by low notes on the piano. Sound is far more powerful than just what our ears perceive.

Positive intention effects on water

Positive intention effects on water

The amazing work of Dr. Masaru Emoto shows us that emotions are energetic. His experiment explored how thoughts and emotions influenced water. Saying ‘thank you’ to a glass of water would result in beautiful, geometric shapes to form in the frozen water crystals. In contrast, telling the water that ‘I hate you’ would return a very unpleasant form.

With the human body being made up of 70% water, it would be wise to avoid negative thoughts.

And maybe next time you drink a glass of water, try thanking it first.
